Crew Chief, Parks (Cemetery) (Finance)

The Parks Crew Chief is responsible for overseeing the operation and maintenance of city parks and various public spaces. This role involves managing the upkeep of facilities such as parks, golf courses, cemeteries, trails, medians, streetscapes, and the grounds of various public buildings. To qualify for this position, candidates should have a minimum of six years of experience in fields such as parks maintenance, cemetery landscapes, horticulture, or farming. If the applicant does not already hold a Class A Commercial Driver's License (CDL), the City offers the opportunity to obtain one within 12 months of hire, with the training and cost covered.
The typical work schedule for this role is from Monday to Friday, with hours that vary seasonally. During the winter, work hours are from 7:00 AM to 3:30 PM, while in the summer, they shift to 6:00 AM to 2:30 PM.
In addition to overseeing regular maintenance duties, the Crew Chief is responsible for managing cemetery operations with great care and sensitivity, particularly during burial services. This includes coordinating the preparation of burial sites and supervising the team during the burial process. The Crew Chief must also interact respectfully with grieving families, offering assistance and maintaining a calm, dignified environment during services. Their role requires a balance of practical leadership and emotional sensitivity, ensuring both the physical upkeep of the cemetery and the compassionate handling of bereaved individuals during difficult times.

Responsible for planning, directing and monitoring the job assignments of Parks and Grounds Technicians and seasonal employees in the maintenance of parks, facilities, hardscapes, streetscapes, cemeteries and trails.Supervises the preparation and maintenance of playing fields and courts for scheduled use.Supervises and performs necessary repairs and maintenance to restrooms, facilities, playgrounds, columbariums and mausoleums, etc.Supervises, installs, renovates, repairs and maintains irrigation systems and pumping stations.Supervises and repairs infrastructure within the trail system (i.e., trail surfaces, bridges, trailheads, and right-of-ways).Supervises and participates in the maintenance of hardscapes and horticulture infrastructure in the renovated alleys and downtown core area.Supervises and participates in the maintenance of flower and shrub beds in the park system.Supervises and operates medium to heavy duty motor vehicles and specialized turf maintenance equipment.Supervises and participates in snow removal efforts.Reviews and completes administrative tasks.Conducts research and makes recommendations for budget, equipment, tools and employee staffing levels.Answers citizen questions, investigates and responds to their complaints.Participates in the on-call rotation for the division.May frequently perform the functions of employees supervised.
