POSITION SUMMARY :
The candidate will be required to be proficient in basic laboratory techniques with special emphasis in flow cytometry and cell sorting, including analysis of data. Other techniques include microscopy, cell culture, transfection, molecular cloning, extraction of DNA, RNA, and microRNAs, use of siRNA. The candidate should be well-versed with immunology, inflammatory and anti-inflammatory signaling pathways. Beside working with human samples, we also expect the candidate to be proficient in handling mice, and be well-versed in breeding and maintenance of colonies, have knowledge of animal anesthesia, intravenous/retroorbital and intraperitoneal injections, and dissection. As a developer, the candidate will implement new programs, tests, methods, instrumentation, and procedures by investigating alternatives; preparing proposals; developing and performing parallel testing; monitoring progress. For self-development, we expect the candidate to maintain professional and technical knowledge by attending educational workshops; reviewing professional publications; establishing personal networks; participating in professional societies.
The position is in the laboratory of Jolan Walter, MD, PhD, Chief of the Pediatric Division of Allergy and Immunology at USF and Johns Hopkins All Children's Hospital. It is located at the St. Petersburg campus.
DUTIES:
RESEARCH DUTIES (70% FTE):
The candidate will pursue research to promote the goals of the laboratory focused on the study of B cell dysregulation, autoimmunity, B cell repertoires in human and animal models of primary immune deficiencies and tolerance mechanisms and identification of gene defect from human patient samples with primary immunodeficiency with the guidance of the principal investigator.
TEACHING DUTIES (15% FTE):
The candidate will be required to teach laboratory techniques and basic cellular and intestinal biology to trainees at various levels of experience, including students, residents, and fellows.
ADMINISTRATIVE DUTIES (10 % FTE):
The candidate will participate in management of equipment and other personnel issues to ensure laboratory productivity.
OTHER DUTIES (5% FTE):
Other duties as assigned.
POSITION QUALIFICATIONS:
MINIMUM:
The candidate should have a PhD or equivalent qualification and should have experience in working in the field of human and mouse immunology including complex laboratory techniques and basic cellular and intestinal biology such as flow cytometry, DNA/RNA work, whole transcriptome analysis and interpretation of data generated. The candidate preferably has bioinformatics background for complex data management and analysis. The candidate should have the ability to present data in scientific meetings and publish the findings in high-tier journals. Must meet university criteria for appointment to the rank of Postdoctoral Associate.
