Perioperative Aide (Healthcare)
SPECIFIC JOB DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
Support the mission, vision, and values of the organization.Follow established protocols for safe patient handling (e.g., safely moving, transferring, and transporting patients).Follow established protocols for transporting equipment, supplies, surgical specimens, and other itemsFollow established protocols for maintaining a clean, safe environment for patients, personnel, and visitors.Follow established protocols for using communication devices (e.g., pagers, computers, cell phones).Operate, transport, and transfer equipment safely and according to the manufacturers instructions for use.Safely move, transfer, and transport patients onto transport vehicles (e.g., wheelchairs, stretchers, patient beds, OR beds).Operate patient lifting equipment and mechanical assist devices (e.g., mechanical lift devices, air-assisted lateral transport devices, sling devices) safely and according to the manufacturers instructions for use.Adhere to infection prevention practices (i.e., standard, contact, droplet, and airborne precautions), including the use of personal protective equipment.Clean designated areas and equipment and follow safety procedures and manufacturers instructions when handling cleaning solutions, supplies, and equipment.Prepare transport vehicles and equipment according to anticipated needs of the perioperative team.Follow established protocols for safe disposal of linens, trash, and supplies.Inventory, receive, and restock materials used for supporting perioperative services as assigned.Perform other duties as assigned.Comply with organizational policies, regulatory and accreditation standards, and professional guidelines.Exhibit professional interpersonal communication skills.Assist with quality improvement activities as assigned.Maintain privacy and confidentiality of individuals and health information.Performs other duties as assigned.
EDUCATION, CERTIFICATION, LICENSURE, REGISTRATION:
High school graduate or equivalent, requiredBasic Life Support (BLS) certification, requiredRecent patient transporter / aide experience in a perioperative setting, preferredRecent patient transporter experience in an acute care setting, preferredCertificate of completion of hospital education program that included hand hygiene, infection prevention principles, first aid, body mechanics, safe patient handling, and equipment handling, preferredBasic computer skills, preferred

REASONING ABILITY:
Ability to solve practical problems and deal with a variety of concrete variables in situations where only limited standardization exists.Ability to interpret a variety of instructions furnished in written, oral, or schedule form.
INTERPERSONAL SKILLS:
Must interact and communicate both verbally and in written form.Must interact and exchange information regarding patients with physicians and other departmental personnel, and outside agencies on a frequent basis while respecting the confidentiality of patient information.
