Maintenance and Construction Worker (Finance)

The Department of Waste Resources is seeking multiple Maintenance and Construction Workers (MCW) to be based at the Badlands Landfill, located in Moreno Valley or the Lamb Canyon Landfill, located in Beaumont to work with Operations, Recycling & Traffic Control or Refuse Control.
H eavy manual labor utilizing various hand and power tools, while near and around light to medium construction equipment, will include, but not be limited to: servicing appliances to remove all hazardous materials; grounds maintenance at the landfill site; graffiti removal; facilities maintenance; cleaning up illegally dumped trash/litter on county owned roadways.
Competitive candidates will have worked in a solid waste facility or recycling center [processing items, such as, metals, plastics, tires, electronic components such as CRT's and various appliances] specifically with the day-to-day operations including traffic direction, materials recycling and appliance servicing.

Meet the Team! The Department of Waste Resources serves the County's solid waste disposal needs by providing for efficient and effective landfilling of County non-hazardous waste, protecting the environment, and promoting recycling in order to ensure a safe and healthy community for current and future generations.• Perform recycling work at refuse disposal sites: l oad/unload waste tires at illegal dump sites at community cleanups; c ollect, package and ship electronic waste for recycling; collect, handle and store household antifreeze, batteries, motor oil and paints from landfill customers.
• Spray, cut and clear brush/weeds.
• Use a variety of hand and power tools, mowers and other light motorized equipment.
• Perform traffic direction, set up and maintain traffic signs at refuse disposal sites.
• Perform graffiti abatement in unincorporated areas of Riverside County.
• Construct, maintain and repair roads by patching h oles with asphalt and/or concrete.
• Construct and maintain fencing, flood control channel walls, levees and culverts.
• C lear fencing, roads, flood control channel walls, levees, culverts and other facilities of storm debris and damage.Experience
One year of performing construction work or field maintenance work (e.g., roads, flood control facilities, refuse sites, recycling facilities, public works projects or closely related work) which required operation of light trucks and related construction equipment.
Other Requirements
Possession of a valid Class C California Driver's License.
The majority of this position will entail working outdoors in inclement weather conditions (rain, sleet, wind and Summer temperatures exceeding 115 degrees Fahrenheit).

Department of Transportation
For those positions designated by the Department of Transportation (DOT) as safety-sensitive, applicants are required to complete a DOT mandated alcohol and drug-screening. (A positive test or refusal to test during the past two years will disqualify an applicant from consideration for County employment). Reference checks from former DOT regulated employers are also required. Applicants must submit a Department of Motor Vehicles (DMV) driving record prior to hire.
Employees in safety-sensitive positions are subject to DOT alcohol/drug testing in the following situations: random, reasonable suspicion/cause, return-to-duty, and post-accident.
Knowledge Of
The operation and maintenance of trucks and light motorized equipment; equipment and traffic safety procedures; the tools and materials commonly used in field maintenance, recycling, or construction work.
Ability To
Safely operate trucks and light motorized equipment; perform a variety of semi-skilled maintenance or construction tasks; operate power saws, chippers, and a variety of hand tools; follow oral and written instructions.This recruitment is open to all applicants.
