Paint & Fiberglass Technician (Manufacturing)
Essential Duties and Responsibilities
Surface preparation to include stripping, scuffing, sanding, masking and priming surfacesApply coats of paint, varnish, stain, enamel or lacquer, as appropriate, to decorate and protect interior and exterior surfaces, trimmings and fixtures of boatsUtilize hand and power tools including but not limited to; scraper, wire brush, needle gun, grinder, pneumatic chipper, basic tools, sandpaper, etc.Knowledge of the requirements for varnish prepping and sealing and the products utilizedRepair and fabricate composite partsAbility to match and spray gel coatInteract with customers and respond to customer questions as they relate to paint and varnish applicationsMeet environmental requirements and best marina practices in acquisition, application, removal and disposal of paint, paint waste or residuals in accordance with OSHA requirements and federal and state lawsAvailability to work overtime in order to meet deadlinesOther duties as assigned by Manager
Safety and Environmental Responsibilities
Follow SHM Safety and Environmental rules and complete required related training.Wear proper personal protective equipment (may include safety glasses, gloves, life jackets and/or hard hats) as required for the task or work area.Report all accidents, injuries, spills and near misses immediately.
Technical and Physical Requirements
2-5 years experience preferredPrevious experience with gel coat and fiberglass preferredFamiliarity with spraying requiredAwlgrip training a plusAbility to ascend and descend a ladderAbility to work in confined spacesAbility to lift 50 poundsBasic boat handling skills preferred
