SR. ACCOUNTANT & Insurance ADMIN
Position Summary/Objective
This role is responsible for managing the comprehensive insurance renewal process, coordinating claims with internal and external stakeholders, and ensuring timely and accurate communication and reporting. The ideal candidate will excel in maintaining financial records aligned with GAAP standards and support organizational objectives through effective insurance administration and accounting expertise. This role requires a proactive, detail-oriented professional capable of balancing administrative tasks with complex financial reporting responsibilities.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities
Insurance Administration
· Obtain updates on all incidents/claims from internal and external sources.
· Maintain and update the incident/claims master schedule.
· Host weekly calls to communicate material updates and gather information from the internal insurance team.
· Manage the insurance process for catastrophic/significant one-off events.
· Communicate with insurance carriers regarding claims, acquisitions, and dispositions.
· Track and monitor property insurance policies.
· Prepare applications and provide necessary information to brokers.
· Complete insurance policy audits to ensure accuracy and compliance.
· Ensure timely payment of insurance premiums.
Accounting and Financial Reporting
· Provide information to accounting for the monthly recording of insurance-related items, including expenses, captive entries, and prepaids.
· Analyze accounting records, including financial statements, to assess accuracy, completeness, and adherence to standards.
· Reconcile and analyze assigned balance sheet accounts.
· Prepare and record journal entries with proper documentation and support.
· Support the completion of financial period closings within established deadlines.
· Assist with year-end audit preparation and respond to audit-related inquiries.
· Perform ad-hoc reporting and analysis as needed.
Cross-Functional Collaboration and Compliance
· Work with investments and accounting teams to determine if damaged properties can be released and identify any lender reporting requirements.
· Follow and maintain policy and procedural documentation to ensure compliance with internal and external requirements.
· Research and apply accounting policies and procedures to maintain accurate financial data.
· Collaborate with other departments, such as investments, property management, and legal, to support company objectives related to insurance and financial reporting.
Minimum Qualifications (Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities)
· Bachelor's degree in accounting
· 4+ years' experience in accounting field
· Accounting and Reconciliation Skills
· Intermediate or Better Excel Skills including advance formulas and pivot tables
· Good Ethical Conduct
· Performs tasks with minimal supervision with reliability in checking own work for accuracy
· Knowledge of Generally Accepted Accounting Principals
· Strong analytical, organizational and communication skills
· Comfortable training coworkers and provide on job training
· Public Accounting experience
· CPA Preferred
· Public / SEC reporting experience
