Job Summary Job Summary: The overall purpose of this position is to establish, monitor, and maintain accounting controls to safeguard the $1B + assets of IEEE, IEEE Inc, Global IEEE, IEEE International LLC, and IEEE Asia Pacific Limited in accordance with generally accepted accounting principles (GAAP). This position is responsible for ensuring proper recognition of IEEE's $500M+ annual revenue and associated expenses in accordance with generally accepted accounting principles (GAAP). This includes annual consolidation of 800+ conferences, 600+ geographical units, standards developing groups and subsidiary organizations. The role also facilitates strategic management decisions by providing thoughtful analysis on an ad hoc and ongoing basis, generates financial statements, and monitors accounting practices to ensure IEEE, IEEE Inc. and IEEE International LLC receive an unmodified ("clean") opinion on their annual financial audit. This is achieved by leading and working with the general accounting staff in keeping current with, understanding and following generally accepted accounting principles, working with organization-wide financial staff and volunteers to ensure compliance, monitoring and maintaining internal controls in multiple financial systems and throughout all processes, staying informed of changes throughout the organization, and providing input and guidance on anything with a financial impact.
The role typically reports to the Director, Corporate Accounting and manages 2-3 accounting staff.
The individual is responsible for the external consolidation accounting and internal financial reporting of the Company's consolidated entities.
The position requires an individual with a conceptual and technical understanding and experience in U.S. GAAP, Accounting ERP systems application of GAAP, detailed knowledge of the accounting impact in the consolidation process and of intercompany accounting. The internal financial reporting function requires the technical understanding of U.S. GAAP reporting, Managerial reporting, and detailed knowledge of accounting systems and it's reporting functions.

Develops and implements effective internal controls to safeguard the organizations' assets in accordance with generally accepted accounting principles (GAAP). Identifies potential areas of weakness in financial processes and establish appropriate controls to mitigate.
Responsible for preparing Annual Consolidated Financial Statements and accompanying notes to Financial Statements that is the basis upon which the external auditors perform their tests
Manages all consolidation activities to ensure an accurate and timely close
Analyzes financial results in relation to current business trends to ensure appropriate reporting of operational causes of the financial effects
Prepares the consolidated mapping file that is the basis for the annual Financial Discussion & Analysis tables, charts, and graphs for discussion with management
Prepares the preliminary consolidated financial results “flash” reporting at year end to provide directionally accurately results prior to year-end close to Management Council
Responsible for the preparation of monthly financial statements, including income statements, balance sheets, next assets rollforward, cash flow and various internal management reports and other analyses for internal Management reporting
Prepares complex corporate level accounting adjustments, allocations, estimates, accruals, etc.
Has knowledge to conceptualize reports that management requests and assist in developing such reports (e.g., Portfolio view, Treasurers' view
Administrator and subject matter expert of the Mapping financial reporting database for various reporting requirements
Independently work with Financial Planning and Analysis to ensure necessary financial statements are provided in a timely manner and performs data validation, reconciles Oracle and Hyperion financial reports
Creates and develops an efficient consolidation process
Recommends, develops, documents procedures, and implements those approved
Owns chart of account structure, entity structure and associated set-up within ERP systems and all reporting system.
Developing and implementing best practice processes and systems
Develop staff by managing performance, setting goals, providing ongoing training, and maintaining strong employee relationships
Independently works with tax department to provide all necessary financial reporting needed for 990 tax filings
Active participant in various Management projects
Prepares consolidated audit schedules, narratives, and full analysis during audit engagement. Responds to auditor inquiries.
Provides input for budget and forecast related to her reports
Resolves issues related to accounting policies and procedures in a tactful nature
Builds positive relationships with the Business Financials Staff (“BFS”) and other finance staff from various other operating units to provide effective service and achieve to achieve a common goal
Leads and/or participates in other finance and accounting projects as needed and required
Education
Bachelor's degree or equivalent experience Accounting, Finance or related field Req
Work Experience
4-7 years knowledge in the field particularly Generally Accepted Accounting Principles Knowledge of Generally Accepted Accounting Principles knowledge/experience. Req
Have expert knowledge of Excel & Business Intelligence software Req
Licenses and Certifications
Non Clinical\CPA - Certified Public Accountant Pref
Skills and Requirements
Must be a technologically savvy knowledge worker who seeks out technology solutions to business challenges. Specific technology knowledge and experience needed to include Microsoft Office (particularly Excel), Oracle Financials, Hyperion, Business Objects, Siebel, and Feith.
Must have strong verbal and written communication skills to be able to articulate program and transactional details with precision either on the telephone or in person with staff or clients at all levels. Must display professionalism and the ability to interact with all levels of management
Must be comfortable and adept at presenting ideas and concepts to groups of people in both formal or informal settings and of various sizes
Must function as a highly effective team player
Ability to identify duplication of effort, and issues relating to areas of responsibility, which may or may not always be obvious
