Overview Qpex Biopharma is seeking a Research Scientist I/II Microbiology to join our dynamic antibiotic development team. In this role, you will play a pivotal part in advancing our efforts to discover and develop novel antibiotics to address antibiotic resistance. This is a laboratory-based on-site position in our laboratory facilities in San Diego. Detailed Description Key Responsibilities:
Design, plan, and execute of experiments to investigate and optimize antibiotic compounds commensurate with experience and position level.
Conduct small and large-scale MIC assays, time-kill assays, resistance development assays to support discovery and development programs
Utilize diverse microbiology and molecular genetics techniques to analyze mechanisms of action for potential antibiotic candidates.
Collaborate with cross-functional teams, including medicinal chemists, microbiologists, and pharmacologists, to contribute to the overall drug discovery process.
Stay abreast of current literature and emerging trends in antibiotic development to inform and enhance research strategies. Prepare study reports and contribute to preparation of manuscripts.
Maintain accurate and detailed laboratory records, ensuring compliance with industry standards and protocols.
Contribute to the publication of research findings in scientific journals and presentations at conferences.
Qualifications:
Ph.D., Master's, or Bachelor's degree in Microbiology, Molecular Biology, or a related field is preferred.
The Scientist I level requires 0-8 years of experience; or equivalent combination of education and experience.
The Scientist II level requires 2-10 years of experience; or equivalent combination of education and experience.
A minimum of 7 years of experience in hands-on conduct of large-scale MIC assays, time-kill assays, resistance development assays to support discovery and development programs with a proven track record of scientific contributions in the field.
Familiarity with phenotypic and molecular diagnostic methods to assess antibiotic susceptibility.
Knowledge of drug discovery processes.
Strong analytical and problem-solving skills, with the ability to interpret and communicate the results of complex data sets.
Excellent communication and collaboration skills to work effectively in a multidisciplinary team.

Ability to articulate clearly and conduct verbal presentations with large and small audiences.
Ability to travel via automobile and/or airplane.
Ability to view video display terminal images
Ability to operate a computer keyboard and telephone.
Ability to sit for extended periods of time - up to four (4) hours at a time.
Ability to lift, tug, pull up to fifteen (15) pounds.
The base salary range for this full-time position is $110,000 - $155,000 annually.
